Day 1: Fez, Ifrane, the Monkey Forest, Azrou, Midelt, the Ziz Gorges, and Merzouga
From Fez, we will go through Ifrane to the southern portion of Morocco. We’ll halt in Azrou, home of the Atlas Mountains’ cedar and monkey forests. Following our arrival in the Sel Ziz valley, we will explore the Oasis of Tafilalet, which is dotted with numerous date palms, before continuing on to the port of Tizi-n-Talghoumlt.
We will reach Merzouga, also known as “Erg Chebbi,” in the afternoon, marking our entry into the Sahara desert.

Day 2’s highlights include Merzouga, the Dakar trails, Khamilia, nomad communities, and Erg Chebbi.
Following breakfast, we’ll travel to the desert. We will see nomads in the desert and have tea with them before visiting an oasis where the Penelope Cruz-starring movie “Sahara” was filmed. We will also see one of the iconic tracks from the “Paris-Dakar Rally.” We’ll go to the “blacks” settlement, so named since Sudan used to be a major source of slaves. We’ll take the camels to the desert dunes after lunch to watch the sun set.
Once there, we’ll spend the night in a Berber camp, taking in the local cuisine and entertainment.

Day 3: Rissani, Erg Chebbi Dunes, and Fez
After bringing the camels back, we’ll move on to Rissani, Morocco’s first imperial city, where we’ll explore its strange market, which is unheard of in these latitudes. We will get a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley with its palm tree groves and canyons as we go to Erfoud. We will arrive in Midelt after passing the port of Tizi-n-Talghomt, where we will eat lunch.
After that, we’ll head into the cedar forest. Stopping by the monkeys in their natural habitat is a must. We’ll go through Ifrane on our way to Fes, Morocco’s cultural center (called the Moroccan Switzerland).
